The Vidya Prasarak Mandal (Regd.) is an educational trust founded on 26th March 1960 by Kannada speaking linguistic minority who originally hailed from Karnataka to manage the existing Kannada Primary School founded in 1957. In 1962 it established a Kannada High School. Ten years later, an English Pre-Primary and Primary School came into existence which in 1976 grew as B.R. Tol English High School. In 1991 VPM’s growth tree had another institution with Jr. College coming into existence. The logic of growth continued with a Degree College of Arts, Science and Commerce coming into existence in 2003. In 1999 as an offshoot of Kannada Primary School, Kannada Balwadi came up. In 1997 to promote professionally useful courses, VPM’s Institute of Professional Studies (Regd) was established while to reach out to school dropouts, in 2000 VPM’s National Institute of Open Schooling came up.
In Mulund almost everyone knows about the educational activities of Vidya Prasarak Mandal that was started by a group of educationists in 1957 to cater to the educational needs of the growing Kannada populace. The school that was started with a handful of students soon bloomed into one of the foremost Kannada Schools in Mumbai and boasted of over 2000 students on roll in its prime. Today 60 years on, the Mandal vaunts of ELEVEN educational Institutions, imparting education not only in Kannada but in English as well from KG to PG.
Now that 60 years have elapsed since founding the institution, VPM’s Management has decided to celebrate its Diamond Jubilee throughout the academic year 2017-18. The Diamond Jubilee Celebrations were inaugurated in April 2017 with President of Somaiya Vidyavihar, Mr Samir Somaiya as the Chief Guest. Now the committee has decided to bring out a publication called “Visitors’ Views” consisting of views expressed by the visitors to VPM institutions. The issue will be a collector’s item. Hence all those who have visited the VPM’s institutions are cordially invited to share their views on the Vidya Prasarak Mandal and its institutions. All ex-students of Kannada and English Schools are also invited to join.
