Adarsh Is Not the First or the Last Case of Land Grab Scandal by Politicians–VPM’s CIS–Mulund

Most of our politicians call themselves, while filing their affidavits during elections their profession as “social worker”. Some of us in VPM also are social workers. Look at their declared income, it is widely disproportionate to their declared qualifications.

Comptroller & Auditor General (CAG) in his Reports have brought out the facts that prominent politicians misused education land in and around Mumbai. Vilasrao Deshmukh during his tenure as the Chief Minister (CM) in Maharashtra allotted 23,840 sq. Metres land at Borivali to his family trust—Manjra Charitable Trust (MCT) for construction of a dental College at a concessional rate of Rs. 6.56 crores; the CAG has said that the land is worth Rs. 30.37 crores. While there were other claimants for the same it was allotted to MCT without explaining the reasons for preferential treatment. The Dental College has not come up so far at the site.

Similarly another CM, Narayan Rane was a fortunate beneficiary of 1699 sq. Metres land at Andheri to his Sindhudurg Shikshan Prasarak Mandal for setting up a community centre; instead a  Banquet Hall has come up which is given on rental for Rs 2lakhs a day. (The Hindustan Times, 18/ 4/2012)

Chagan Bhujbal, right hand man of Shiv Sena’s Balasaheb Thackeray, who later became right hand man of NCP’s strongman, Sharad Pawar, was in the news recently for all wrong reasons. More specifically, CM’s and ministers with the collaboration of bureaucrats and high ranking military officials have created a joint venture called “Adarsh”. Every child in Mumbai has heard of Adarsh scandal in which, the Congress Party’s Ashok Chavan was one of the main politician who was involved in the scandal. Adarsh is anything but Adarsh. It has become an epitome for unbridled corruption by the influential politicians and bureaucrats.
